San Francisco: (Maybe in front of the Harvey Milk Library) A plaque in the sidewalk in front of the library explains Jose Sarria's legacy: Jose Sarria Court honors the humor, political savvy and talent of a great San Franciscan. Born in 1923, Sarria's performance career began in the 1950s. In 1961, Sarria ran for San Francisco City Supervisor, the first openly gay candidate to run for office in the United States.

Plaque for hate crime victim Charles O. “Charlie” Howard, thrown off a downtown Bangor bridge and drowned in 1984 by young hoodlums. After 25 years, a monument to him was placed near the State Street Bridge beneath which he died.

Langston Hughes: Though his ashes are scattered, there are several cenotaphs: His ashes are interred beneath a floor medallion in the middle of the foyer leading to the auditorium named for him within the Arthur Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.[30] The design on the floor covering his cremated remains is an African cosmogram titled Rivers.
